The line chart illustrates the usage of water for three different purposes over the world in a century. The table compares the amount of water consumed in Brazil and Congo in year 2000.
Overall, it is evident that the global usage of water increased significantly from 1900 to 2000. In which the water consumption for agriculture were consistently higher than the other two sectors. Meanwhile, each citizens in Brazil – a developed country with huge population consumed a lot more water than those in Congo – a developing country with humble population in the examined year.
In 1900, agriculture activites around the world consumed about 500km3 of water, while less than 100km3 of water was used for domestic and industrial use. These figures rose gradually over the century then reached their peaks in 2000. Among the three sectors, agriculture was the one using the most water. In 2000, around 3000km3 of water was used for agriculture. At the same time the usage for industrial and domestic practices stood at 1000km3 and 200m3 respectively.
On the other hand, water consumption also varied in diffirent countries. Brazil in 265 times bigger than Congo in terms of size and more than 30 times bigger in terms of population. Thus why, the water consumption per Brazillians was much higher than this of Congo citizens. In 2000, the figure recorded in Brazil is 359m3/person, 40 times higher than in Congo (8m3/person).
