The line graph illustrates how much water used three different sectors worldwide over 100 consecutive years from 1900 to 2000 measured in km3, and the table shows the amount of water consumed per person in two countries compared with population and irrigated land in 2000.
Overall, it can be seen that consumption of water rose in all sectors over the period, the most significant rose was in agriculture sector and it is worth to noting that Brazil used more water than Democratic Republic of Congo.
Consumption of water by Agriculture sector stood at about 500 km3 and rose significantly to reach about 3000 in 2000. Industrial and domestic usage began at fairly similar level at about 100 in 1900 then they both followed a similar trend until 1950. Between 1950 and 2000 industrial usage rose steadily to finish the period at about 1300 while domestic usage experienced a slight growth and in 2000 it accounted for below than 500.
With regards to consumption in Brazil and Congo, population in Brazil was 176 million and it had 26,500 km3 irrigated land, water usage constituted 359m3 per person. Democratic Republic of Congo by contrast had just 5.2 million population and a mere 100 km3 irrigated land, hence, each person used just 8m3.
