The pie charts compare the main sources of energy in the USA in term of five important categories in the period of different years.
Overall, oil took up the lion's share of total energy in both years. Whereas, hydroelectric was the least commonly consumed source of energy.
In 1980, 42 % of oil was consumed, which was much higher than that in 1990, at 33%. There is a steady decrease in using natural gas, from 26 % in 1980 to 25 % in 1990. In term of hydroelectric power, the figures in both years were similar, at 5 %.
In contrast, the increase in coal was with in the range of 25 % and 27 % from 1980 to 1990. The proportion of nuclear power in 1980 was half of that in 1990, 5% compared to 10%.
