Overall, it is clear that the highest number of telephone calls ( in billions) was local - fixed line. There are increases in the figure of minutes for National and international - fixed line and mobiles, while the number for local - fixed line fluctuated during the period.
In 1995, the number for local - fixed line was 72 billion minutes, compared with 38 and 2 for national and international - fixed line and mobiles, respectively. In 1999, the Uk witnessed a rapid rise in the number of minutes of phone calls for local - fixed line, reached 90 before fell quickly to over 70 in 2002.
By contrast, there was a steady growth for national and international - fixed line from 38 in 1995 to 61 in 2002. The figure of minutes of telephone calls for mobiles also rose slightly to over 10 in 1999 and then increased suddenly to reach a peak in 2002, with 45 billion minutes.
