The information given in the charts makes comparisons in the number of Americans who got married and divorced from 1970 to 2000 and the marital status of adults in the USA in 1970 and 2000.
It is apparent that the majority of Americans got married between 1970 and 2000 in comparison with the number of divorcees. Besides, the proportion of marriages is also higher than other marital statuses in 1970 and 2000.
Looking at the information in more detail, the number of marriages tended to decrease. In 1970 and 1980, there were 2.5 million people who got married. Howerver, this figure declined by 0.5 millions in 2000. Similarly, the figure for divorces reach a peak at nearly 1.5 millions in 1980 before experiencing a slight fall.
As can be seen from the second chart, the percentage of marriages in both year is the hoghest with 70% and nearly 60% respectively. The proportion of divorces in 1970 is the lowest at about 1%. On the other hand, the number of unmarried or divoced people is higher than that in 1970.
