The illustration provides data on how municipality population developed and will develop in the future in some areas of the world.
It is clear that there was an increase in urban population on over the world from 1950 to 2000. Furthermore, there are more and more people living in metropolis in the future, particularly 2030.
The percentage of urban population of whole world accounted for 30% in 1950 and those went up to nearly a half in 2000, after which it will be predicted that the rate of municipality population of whole world in 2030 will twice bigger than those in 1950, 60% and 30%. In addition to, Latin America had and will have the biggest number of population living in towns and cities, particularly 40% in 1950, 70% in 2000 and 80% in 2030.
In 1950, Africa had the lowest percentage in municipality population with 10%. However, in 2000, the proportion of urban population in African stayed the same level with those in Asia, about under 40%. In 2030, according to the prediction, the figure of population who will living in metropolis will reach a peak in Latin America with 80% and those will twice higher than those in Africa, just 40%.
