It can clearly be seen that there was a slightly downward movement from once per week to once or twice per month which American residents went outside to eat at a restaurant over the period of ten years.
Looking at the information in more detail, the highest point of frequency was recorded once a week in the year of 2003 and 2006 (31% and 33%, respectively). In 2003, the lowest frequency had a fairly equal proportion between people never eating outside and people eating at restaurants on a daily basis, which at roughly 5%. In 2006, the percentage of eating once per week showed a significant increase to around 38% while that of once or twice per month saw a sharp fall to about 25%.
As illustrated, at the end of the investigated period, the figures for going outside for eating and never eating at restaurants remained stable (approximately 3% and 4%, correspondingly). In contrast, the highest category belonged to the group of once or twice per month in the same year, which accounted for about 33%. Also, this figure was twice as high as that for the group of several times per week (nearly 16%).
