The given bar chart represents the proportion of households owning and households renting accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
Overall, it is obvious that people in England and Wales preferred to live in owned house rather than rented house. Precisely, over a period of eighty-four years from 1918 to 2011, the number of housing in owned dropped dramatically meanwhile that of housing in rented climbed sharply.
Initially, the quantity of rented house reached a peak at nearly eighty percent in 1918 while that of owned house reached a lowest point of more than twenty percent. The year of 1971 witnessed an equal amount of fifty percent hiring house as well as owning house.
Turning to the last forty years course, the figure for lodging place turned entirely opposite. Particularly, although the percentage of owning houses rose significantly to just under seventy percent in 2001, that in hiring houses suddenly bottomed out at just over thirty percent. Surprisingly, the picture changed slightly in 2011 when households in owned declined five percent within that in rented rose an equal amount of percentage.
