The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart depicts the proportion of ménage of owned and hired dwelling in England and Wales in 93-year period, from 1918 to 2011. On the first sight, it is obvious that the percentage of households in rented accommodation took over the owned one during the first approximate 40 years, while the reverse was seen in the later 40 years.

It can be clearly seen from 1918 to 1971, the rate of households in owned home gradually rose over 25% from around over 20% to 50%, which was the switched point of two trends. By contrast, the proportion of rented one was over 75% in 1918, which was triple that of the other, and dramatically decreased to 50% in 1971, in spite of a stable time from 1939 to 1953.

For the next 40-year period later, an opposite movement was occurred. The percentage of owned house strongly grew and reached its peak in 2001, at 70% then slowly fell to 65% in 2011. Vice versa, the rate of hired accommodation had a sharp drop from 1971 to 2001 at the rate of 50% and 30%, respectively; then gained their rise again in 2011, at 35%.
