The chart shows unemployment rate and the number of people leaving Ireland from 1988 to 2008.
The given chart illustrates the comparison between the percentage of people who are jobless and the number of migrators in Ireland over the 20-year period from 1988 to 2008.
Overall, there are significant drops in both the joblessness rate and the migration number between 1988 and 2008. Additionally, it is obvious that the figure for the number of people leaving their country decline rapidly in almost all the period shown.
As can be easily seen from the chart, starting at about 16%, after some fluctuations around 14% from 1988 to 1994, the percentage of unemployed people underwent a considerable fall of approximately 10%, then hit the bottom in 2000, at 4% which was just one-fourth as opposed to its counterpart in the beginning of the period. Subsequently, this figure decreased marginally to roughly 6% at the end of the examined period.
Regarding the number of people leaving Ireland, the figure for 1992 reduced nearly a half in comparison with that for 1988, at about 33000 people. During the following 10 years, this figure continued to experience a slight decrease of about 5000 people, before increasing sharply to roughly 50000 people in 2008.
