The charts below give information about USA marriage and divorce rates between 1970 and 2000, and the marital status of adult Americans in two of the years.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given diagrams illustrate the change in the figure of marriages and divorces in the USA from 1970 to 2000 and the Americans’ marital status in selected two years.
It is clear that there was a slight decrease in the percentage of USA marriages and divorces over 30 years. While the number of adult Americans got married were seen to decline gradually, this figure of divorced people tended to increase insignificantly.
As for the first bar chart, in both 1970 and 1980, 2.5 million marriages were recognized in America. This figure remained the same for a brief period and then witnessed a 20-year decrease to 2 million. In contrast, the number of divorces stood at 1 million in 1970. The figure reached a peak at approximately 1.5 million in the next 10 years and then it regained its previous level by the year 2000.
Turning to the second bar chart, despite making up the majority of conjugal status of US adults, there was a downwards trend by 10% over the period of time in the proportion of married people. Similarly, this fall was witnessed in the percentage of widowed American adults. Noticeably, the figure for single people and divorced people fell slightly, by around 8% for each bar.
