The supplied bar graph compares the population of five cities (Tokyo, New York, Shanghai, Bombay, Jakarta) in the years 1970, 1990 and 2010. The table data represents top five cities by population in 1950 and 2010 while the line graph delineates rural and urban population of the world during the period 1980 to 2010.
A glance at the charts reveals that Tokyo was the most populated city in 1970, 1990 and 2010. On the other hand, New York and London, the two biggest cites by population in 1950, were removed from the top 5 list in 2010. From 1980 to 2010, the rural population was declined whereas the urban population grew.
It could be noticed that in 1950, highest population margin was 12.5 millions in New York while in 2010 it was more than double of that, which is 27.6 millions in Tokyo. A significant increase can be seen for Bombay(5 to 26.6 millions) and Jakarta(around 2.5 to 20.8 millions) from 1970 to 2010.
Interestingly, in the fifth most populated city in 2010 had 8 million more residents than the top most city in 1950.
In terms of world population, both rural and urban inhabitants were leveled off at around 2 billions and 3 billions respectively for a decade from1980 after which both rose gradually till 2000. During the period 2000 to 2010, there was a gradual drop in rural residents while urban residents climbed to 4 billions in 2010.
