The charts below show the growth in the population of some of the worlds largest cities. Summarise the information given and make comparisons where relevant.

The charts show us the substantial and possible population growth in five popular cities around the world from the year 1990 to 2030, along with the population growth in rural and urban areas around the world.

Comparing the year 1990’s population in the five cities, we can see that Tokyo was the most densely populated while Jakarta was scarcely populated with the population being just over 15 million and an approximate 3 million respectively.
New York on the other hand has been noticed to have a slow accelaration of growth even in the near future of 2030, while the city of Shanghai too has shown slow accelaration but predicted to have a rapid growth in the future.

Cities of Jakarta and Bombay are foreseen to have an exponential spurt of population growth with upto five times in the year 2030 from three million and five million respectively in 1990.

The world rural population grew steadily from 1990 to the mid 1990’s and came to a standstill since 1990 onwards. Urban population rose sluggishly till the late 1990’s and then had an escalation of growth with its peak in 2030.
