The diagram below gives the information about the Hawaiian island chain in the centre of the Pacific Ocean.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown
The diagram illustrates the Hawaii island chain, which is located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean.
In general, it is apparently seen that volcanoes are formed by magma eruptions from deep within the Earth's core. It also shows the major islands of the Hawaii archipelago.
As we can see in the picture, the volcano formation in Hawaii began on the solid dense rock layer at a depth of 2,883 km. The "hot spot," which is under the layer, is the place where a colossal amount of magma spume remains static. When the Pacific tectonic plate, which moves at an average speed of 7-9 cm per year, passes over a chink of the Earth's crust and mantle, the magma spume is erupted and reaches the surface. A new volcano is gradually built up after various eruptions.
The diagram also shows that the most aged volcano in the Hawaii chain was formed 80 million years ago. Besides, it is obvious that there are numerous major islands in the archipelago, including Niihai, Kauai, Oahu, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Molokai, and Maui.
