The diagram describes the process of production of electricity in a hydroelectric power station.
Overall, it is clearly evident that electricity is generated through three main steps starting from collection of water at high level. After this, the vertical flow of water to the power station causes the turbines to rotate and generate electricity.
To begin with the process, river is tunneled and water is collected at the highest point i.e reservoir, which is protected by a gigantic dam. Further, the intake occurs during daytime when it is open and remains closed at night. Subsequently, water travels through steep slope at day when electricity is generated. Interestingly, on the other hand, water rushes upward during pumping at night.
The next step is the power station where huge reversible turbines operate generators at daylight which in turn pushes water towards high level reservoir at night. The electric current generated is later supplied to national grid via power lines. The waste water turns out its fate into low level reservoir where it is stored thereafter.
