The figures give information about economic growth and household expenditure across a range of categories
The line graph provides information on economic growth while the pie illustrates the household spending on food, housing, entertainment and among others.
From the line graph, it is evident that the economy grew between 2003 and 2009. It commenced approximately 1% before rising slightly to 2,5% in 1997. The economy experienced a period of fluctuations nearly 2,5% then it increased dramatically and peaked at around 5% in 2005. From this peak, it recovered and reached 1% in 2010 after plunging and reaching a bottom at -5% in 2009.
From the pie chart, housing and food accounted for the largest ratio of the household expenditure in any given years while clothing, entertainment and travel represented only a modest percentage of it. Housing held the lion’s share of the family spending in 1995, 2005 and 2010, about a third of the household expenditure. In 2000, housing was trumped by food with housing accounting for a fourth and food representing a third of the household spending. The sum set aside for travelling, clothing and entertainment never exceeded a fourth of the family spending. Spending on other purposes took up an significant part of the household spending.
