In general, it is clear that while the amount of CO2 emissions per person in British was the highest, the figures for Italy and Portugal was the lowest over a period of 40 years. The figure for Sweden witnessed the fluctuation during this period.
In 1967, while the average amount of CO2 emissions per person in the UK was the highest, at around 11 tones, the figure for Portugal was the lowest, at nearly 2 tones. One Swedish people emitted an average of almost 9 tones, compared to about 4 tones per person in Italy.
While the amount of CO2 emissions per person in UK and Sweden decreased between 1967 and 2007, the figures for Italy and Portugal increased significantly during this period. The figure for the British declined slightly to nearly 9 tons in 2007. The most dramatic increase was seen in Portugal, which went up by about 4 tones from just under 2 tons in 1967 to nearly 6 tons in 2007. Similarly, the amount of CO2 emissions per person in Italy grew gradually to approximately 8 tons in 2007. The figure for Sweden reached a peak at over 10 tons in 1977, then fell rapidly to under 6 tons in 2007.
