This bar-graph illustrates how much meat people in a European country have consumed over a period of 25 years, between 1979 and 2004.
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that there were considerable downward trends in the consumption of both beef and lamb, whereas the intake of chicken saw a significant increase over the period in question. The consumption of fish on the other hand, has stayed fairly steady.
Looking at details, as regards the chicken consumption, it started at just below 150 grams per week per person (gr/w/p) in 1979 and grow gradually to almost 200 gr/w/p in 1989, at which point chicken became the most popular meat of all. Then it continued to rise until 2004, which was more than all of the others combined. As for the consumption of beef, the intake of beef was more than 200 gr/w/p in 1979. After some fluctuations, the amount of beef consumed, started to drop and continued this trend until 2004 when it hit a little above 100 gr/w/p. The consumption of lamb followed the same trend, starting at 150 gr/p/w in 1979 and ending at around 60 gr/p/w in 2003. With some marginal fluctuations, the intake of fish, however, stayed steady at 50 gr/p/w in the mentioned period.
