The line graph illustrates the percentage of senior citizens of three distinct nations in the world over a period of a century. Giving a demonstration in a period between 1940 and 2040, this graph is also features a short-term prediction.
Despite some slight fall, overall trends demonstrate an increasing rate over a century. Although Japan endured a gradual decrease in the first years, predictions show it will end up as a country with the highest percentage of elderly people.
In 1940, people aged 65 and above populated below 10% of their societies. Ratios were about 9, 7 and 5% for USA, Sweden and Japan, respectively. Without the considerations about a subtle decrease of the senior citizens in all the countries, the positions remained the same until 1996, where Sweden overtook USA and achieved the highest place among the surveyed countries.
Based on the prediction, we expect to observe an abrupt increase in Japan’s trend between 2028 and 2033, where its trends will overtake the USA’s in 2030 and Sweden’s in 2033, and earned the first place with more than 25%. By the end of the graph, Sweden and USA will take the second and third place.
