The given line graph compares the figures for marriages and divorces of UK‘s nationals during the period of 25 years, starting in 1975.
Overall, the British tended to get divorced, resulting in second marriages as the year passed by. It is evident that all the figures in the shown line graph experienced a substantial increase except for the number of first marriages, which always ranked top in comparison to that of second marriages and divorces.
With regard to the total marriages surveyed in 1975, there were below 500,000 people who married for the first time together with the one that had a second marriage. As the years went up, the total number also grew to its peak of about 650,000 in 1985 before recording a steady decrease to just nearly 600,000 at the end of the period. By contrast, the number of people who tied the knot for the first time underwent a modest reduction from over 300,000 at the beginning of the period to exactly 300,000 in 1975 with its highest point of 400,000 10 years later.
In concern of the figures for second marriages and divorces, they skyrocketed from 1975 to 2000. At first, the number of UK nationals who committed the second marriage and got divorced was lower than 200,000 and 100,000 respectively. In 1990, they simultaneously increased to approximately 220,000 before came close behind to 250,000 figures in 2000.
