Overall, the proportion of first marriges in the UK decreased slightly, whereas the figures for the other three increased minimally over the period shown.
In 1975, there was nearly 500 thousand people in Britain getting married in total. Among them, there were approximate 350 thousand of couples who got married for the first time. The next 10 years from 1975 to 1985 winessed a signifficant soar in the number of first and total marriages. Over the next 15 years, there was a fluctuation in the proportion of first and total marriages. However, while the first mariages had a tendency of declining to the end of the perior mentioned, the figures for total mariages went up considerably over the years shown.
Turning to rate of the second marriages and divorces which continually surged over the years mentioned. The quantity of people who divorced in the UK stood at the lowest in comparison with the other three. The figures climbed up signifficantly and overtook the proportion of the second marriges until the two ones ended up at nearly the same number of nearly 250 thousand in the finaly year of the period shown.
