The table, as shown, compares the students’ attendance at four different types of secondary schools: Specialist, Grammer, Voluntary-Controlled, and Community Schools, throughoutthe period 2000-2009.
Overall, the proportion of students attending Specialist, Grammer, and Voluntary- Controlled Schools is decreasing throughout the entire period, while students’ attendance in Community Schools is increasing during this period.
Concerning the attendance of students in Specialist Schools in 2000, it was 12% before a slight decline of 1% in 2005, and it continued to decline, reaching 10% by 2009. Similarly, the pupils’ attendance in Grammer Schools started at 24% in 2000 before dipping by about 5% in 2005, and it reached 12% by 2009. In Voluntary-Controlled Schools, students’ attendance was about 52% in 2000 before a major drop in 2005 reaching 38%, and it continued to decrease reaching 20% by 2009.
The trend for pupils’ attendance in Community schools was totally different. Compared to other schools mentioned, the students’ attendance was on the rise throughout the entire period, which is from 2000 to 2009. Starting in 2000, students’ attendance was 12% before stepping up to 32% by 2005 and eventually by 2009, the students’ attendance had increasingly reached 58%.
