Overall, there was an increase in the forest land in Asia and Europe since the figures for other places went down. Europe had the vast majority of forest area while Oceania covers the least hectares of forest land.
In 1990, Europe and Asia had a rise with the former increasing from 989 hectares to 998 in 2000 and finally to 1001 in 2005, and the later climbed from 576 to 584 hectares of land in 2005.
In contrast, the modest decrease happened in Africa and South America where the numbers dropped nearly 60 and 70 hectares respectively. There was only a slight drop in North America from 708 hectares to 705 hectares in 2005. The trend was similar for North America and Oceania. The figures for Oceania dropped from 199 to 197 hectares at the end period.
