Task 1: The table below shows the percentage of the population
by age groups in one town who rode bicycles in 2011.
Age group Female Male
0 – 9 51.3 50.3
10 – 17 42.2 24.6
18 – 39 17.1 9.7
40 – 59 12.3 8.0
60+ 18.5 13.2
The table compares the proportion of the population by age groups in one town who cycled in 2011.
Overall, it is noticeable that the rate of female cycling was higher than that of the male of all ages. Meanwhile, from 18 to 59, the figures for cyclists in both genders were lower than for other age groups.
Regarding the table, the rate of girls and boys riding bicycles between 0-9 was highest than other age groups and the former was higher than the latter, at 51.3 % and 50.3% respectively. However, from 10-17, while this figure for males declined significantly to half, that of females witnessed an insignificant fall to 42.2 % with the percentage of females doubling the proportion of males.
Meanwhile, it is obvious that from 18 to 59, the minority of adults enjoyed cycling. Additionally, although these figures for males were always lower than those of females between 18 and 59, there were considerable declines for the rate of females to 12.3 %, while these figures for males experienced a tiny fall to 8.0%.
By contrast, there was a rise in the figure for senior citizens cycling age 60+ in both sexes. However, this proportion of females was still higher than that of females, at 18.5% and 13.2% respectively.
