The pie charts describe how a particular UK school spent its money every year in the three years of 1981, 1991, and 2001. Overall, expenditure on teachers’ salaries, insurance, and furniture and equipment showed an upward trend during the twenty years, while that on other workers’ salaries and resources e.g. books a downward trend.

Teachers’ salaries, with 40%, took up the largest proportion in 1981 and rose to 50% in 1991 before slightly falling back to 45% in 2001, which stood still at the highest position. Meanwhile, the amount of money on furniture and equipment, equal to that on resources such as books (15%) in 1981, rose to 23% in 2001 after suffering a great dip at 5% in 1991. Also, the two decades witnessed a rise can be seen in the spending on insurance from 2% to 8%, a fourfold rise.
However, the amount of money on other workers’ salaries and resources e.g. books experienced a decrease over the period of twenty years. The percentage of other workers’ salaries presented declined from 28% in 1981 to 15% in 2001, almost a double drop. In the meantime, a dip can be seen in the proportion of resources e.g. books from 15% to 9%, despite a peak at 20% in 1991.
