You went to the local hospital’s Emergency Department with your young child who had severe stomach pains. You had to wait for almost four hours before your daughter was treated by a doctor and, while you were waiting, you were constantly ignored by the other staff.
Write a letter to the Hospital Registrar, complaining about the service you received.
Dear Mr Smith,
I am writing to complain about the treatment my daughter and I received when we visited the Emergency department at your hospital two days ago. Although, I like what you have done to the place especially with the expansions and the gardening.
In relation to more specific details of the event, my daughter started complaining about a severe stomach ache at around 2pm. We thought we could manage it by getting some prescribed drugs, but it got worse. So, I had to rush her to your hospital. On arriving at the emergency ward, we were asked to wait for the doctor, even though my daughter was excruciating pain. Nonetheless, we sat and waited.
We waited for over 4 hours without seeing doctor. I asked the receptionist how long it will take for us to see the doctor but she responded rudely and asked us to wait while acting like she did not care at all.
Finally, we saw a doctor and he recommended some tests for my daughter.
I was highly disappointed with the delivery of services by the receptionists and I was hoping that you take further actions to ensure that no other patient feels humiliated and embarrassed the way we felt. This type of staff at the emergency ward is inappropriate and not suitable at all. I humbly request that you take this matter seriously and try to expedite actions against the staff involved.
I hope to get a reply from you regarding the actions you have taken.
Yours faithfully,
Lilian Okoye
