Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
Give details of how you and your friends of family use the centre
Explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
Describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes.
Dear Sir,
I’m writing you to convey my dissatisfaction on your decision to closing down the Sports and Leisure Centre of Main Street. We were informed the decision was taken as a cost efficiency minimization initiative of the local council.
However, we kindly request you to re-evaluate on the decision considering the reasons mentioned below. Most of the mid aged people use this centre for their workouts since it is located in a convenient place to the community. Besides them, majority of the children around our scheme use this leisure centre during evening and during vacation season as well. The parents, send their children to this place due to the satisfactory safety actions taken on the centre. Apart from that, most of the teenagers use the badminton, tennis and basketball courts during weekends and weekday evenings too.
The closure of the centre will adversely effect on our society because it will restrict ways in which we had to release our stress. The centre has also strengthened the relationship among our neighbours because, it is one of the place which they have used to have casual chats after workouts. If the centre will be closed, the community has to go far away to find a gym and it will negatively impact on physical and mental fitness of our society.
Therefore, we kindly request you not to close down the centre, but to charge a monthly fee from the people who uses it to cover up the expenses of maintenance. We look forward your kind consideration on this matter.
Thank You
Yours faithfully,
K.C.K. Peiris
