Innovation is often driven by the pursuit of profit and economic growth. However, some argue that it should prioritize addressing social and environmental issues. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
I
These days, the vast majority thinks that innovation is frequently motivated by the desire for profit and economic advancement, without innovation we would not have achieved what we call progress today. Businesses, especially those in the field of science and technology, are constantly innovating. However, some argue that it should prioritize social and environmental issues to be the primary objective of innovation. This essay will discuss both views.
To begin with, nowadays most of people are with that innovation is essential for motivating and pushing profits, investments, and development. Governments have always supported innovation in order to raise productivity in economic plans and also to gain more profit. For example, governments always give subsidies to companies which support startups and young inventors, so in the future this will encourages businesses and entrepreneurs more to take risks and explore new ideas, leading to the creation of innovative products and services, leading to economic growth. In addition, because of that economic growth their will be more job offers, so more motivation and support for individuals will be provided and higher standards of living.
On the other hand, some people are strongly against this. Their debate is that innovative ideas should be developed in order to untangle social and environmental matters. Despite all the improvements that could happen as a result from innovation in profits and economic growth, some important problems are left behind. For instance, the environment and the planet are in huge danger and if their wan no plans and solutions for these issues, this will lead to economic recession. Furthermore, by addressing social and environmental challenges, businesses can build trust with consumers, and also investing in sustainable practices can lead to cost savings.
In conclusion, while profit and economic growth have historically driven innovation, there is a growing recognition that innovation should also prioritize addressing social and environmental issues. In my opinion, prioritizing social and environmental issues in innovation can contribute to a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable society leading to more and more economic growth.
