The search for profit and economic growth frequently motivates innovation. Yet, some believe that the focus should be on addressing problems within society and environmental concerns. This comes from the viewpoint that innovation increases management efficiency and is a resource that businesses can use to achieve competitive advantage. Innovation involves creating a new or improved product that can be produced economically. This is important either because it is the first of its kind globally or because its introduction has positive effects, especially on future job opportunities.
There are various economic theories, but generally, the importance of innovation in the economy has become disadvantaged. Supporters of classical economics did not consider innovation to be an important contributing factor to the economic process. Innovation has fallen behind compared to other factors such as land, capital, and labor. The initial definition comes from the idea of innovation as a factor that generates a competitive edge.
The concept of innovation as a driver of economic growth and development has generated a considerable amount of interest in recent years. Following several theories on the causes of economic development, many authors have tried to identify the link between innovation and growth. Although innovation has a significant influence on the economy, for both a single company and at an economic level on a large scale, it is difficult to find a clear definition of the concept itself. When exploring existing research studies, there are many different ways to define the concept of innovation. Although, we have chosen the definitions that seem to be the most applicable and in agreement with the existing theory and allow for further development.
In conclusion, innovation improves the overall quality of life by increasing productivity and driving economic growth. In addition, the current variety of products requiring specialized knowledge ensures that everyone can benefit from economic growth driven by innovation. Therefore, it is important for all developed and developing nations to promote innovation at both individual and levels within society in order to support the growth of the economy. In reality, self-interest at both the individual and organizational levels have the potential to either encourage or impede innovation for enhancing economic growth. Innovation has primarily benefited materialistic individuals, but now is a crucial moment for it to shift focus towards societal and environmental issues.
