Asteroid Colonization
The passage talks about the idea of colonizing the asteroids and there potential benefits. While the lecture disagrees to the fact that colonizing asteroids is beneficial. The reasons are specified below.
Firstly, the passage says that asteroids provide the unique environment for scientific research and researches conducted in these environment provide very valuable information to many academic fields. The lecturer contradicts to the fact that colonizing is possible of asteroid as there is lack of knowledge about asteroids. It is not even known that how much asteroids are present and resources availabe on asteroids.
Secondly, the passage says that natural resources mining on the asteroids can create the new industries and job opportunities by which revenue generation is possible which leads to economic growth. On the other hand the lecturer says that we not even know that how much mineral present on the asteroid and whether it would be cost effective to start mining them. Hence the economic growth would not be possible.
Lastly, the passage says that colonization is helpfull for the long term human settlement, it can be helpfull at time of disasters. However the lecturer disagrees to the fact of human settlement as there is no gravity on the asteroids and hence there is moving difficulty and also it can make bone and muscle damage.
Thus we can conclude that although the passage talks about the benefits of colonizing asteroids the lecture contradicts to the points made in passage.
