The decline of frogs populations

Essay topics:

The decline of frogs populations

Recently, there has been a ton of debate as to the decline of many frog species or even so their extinction. More specifically, in regards to the passages, the writer puts forth the idea that with the help of three methods, this could potentially change for the benefit of frogs ecosystems. In the listening passage, the lecturer is quick to point out there are some serious flaws in the writer's claims. In fact, the professor believes that none of the methods presented can slow down or decline the consequences for the ecosystems in which frogs live, and addresses, in detail, the trouble with each possible solution propossed in the reading text.

First and foremost, the author of the reading states that pesticides are heavily harming frogs populations, because of its strong effect on a frog's body. So in order to prevent frogs from being harmed, he proposes to use laws that prohibit farmers from using harmful pesticides near frog populations. Another professional in the same field, stand in firm opposition to this claim. In the listening, for example, the professor states that reducing pesticides is neither practical, nor fair. She goes on to say that, in fact, by doing this, the farmers are going to be negatively affected because they will be in severe disadvantages from other competitive farmers that do not have to follow such strong regulations.

One group of scholars, represented by the writer, think that a type of fungus that has been spread through the world has got deadly effects, but some researchers have discovered also some treatments to treat or prevent these diseases. Of course, though, not all experts in this field believe this is accurate. Again, the speaker specifically addresses this point when she states that in order for those treatments to work on frogs species, they have to be applied individually, so it is not going to be practical when you think in a big scale. Furthermore, it is complicated and expensive because it has to be applied in new generations as well.

Finally, the author wraps his argument by positing that frogs habitats have been threatened, especially by human activities that include excessive use of water, so these habitats must be better protected so then frog species will be able to recover. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim by contending that although she finds this as a good idea, the real threat is global warming and not especially human activity.

To sum up, both the writer and professor hold conflicting views about the decline of the frog population. It is clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
