tax on ciggaret is fair
The reading states that imposing high taxes on cigarretes and other unhealthy food will benefit society and will lead to heathy bevavior and provides three reasons of support. However, the the professor explains that it would not lead to healthy society neccessarily and refutes each of author's reason.
First, the reading states that the taxes on cigarretes and unhealthy food will lead to discourage people from smoking and eating these foods. The professor refutes this point, and explain that the high taxes on ciggaretes would force smoker to buy a cheaper cigarretes as we know these cigarrets have more dangerous material in comparison to high quality cigarretes , so it makes them more endangered.
Second, the reading claims that these taxes are fair because people with healthy behavior should not cover the medical costs. However, the professor refutes this point and say that imposing high taxes on cigarrete and unheathy food is not fair at all because people with high income and low income pay the same amount of their payment for these behavior it is not fair at all.
Third, the reading states that taxe like these will provide a financial source for government and all society would benefit from this. The professor refutes this point and say that it is possible that government used to these resources and would not tend to loose this taxes consequently do not prevent people from smoking in public place.
