TPO-05 - Integrated Writing Task
The passage proposes three theories concerning the application of great houses in Chaco Canyon. On the other hand, the professor believes that these theories are not convincing. In the following, I will explicate what the relationship between the content of the passage and professor's opinion.
First of all, the passage hypothesizes that the mentioned houses had a residential application due to its analogy to the new apartments at Taos. On the contrary side, the professor states that in spite of their apparent similarity, their interior was not analogous to those of the modern apartments. Investigations prove that there were a few fireplaces in this houses that suggest that it has a residential application.
Second, the passage contends that these apartments might be used as a warehouse to store food supplies. On the other hand, the professor counters that the results of investigations point to the conclusion that there is not a trace of maize remnants available in these houses. This proves that these places were not used for storing purposes.
Third, the passage states that these houses may be used for ceremonial purposes because of the mounds of enormous deposits containing a lot of broken pots that were found during excavation. The professor is of the opinion that this debris of pots belonged to the construction workers and they may throw it away after using. Also, there is a lot of remnants that were related to the construction process.
