TPO 14 Q1
The article discusses a fascinating topic pertaining to why salvage logging is beneficial for both of damaged forest and economy and provides three reasons of support, however, the professor explains that this advantages that stated in the passage for salvage logging are questionable and opposes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading passage discusses that this plan salvages the forest from choking with dead trees. In contrast, the professor provides information that this claim cannot be true. He states that the dead trees can increase the fertility of forest soils that consequently help to the growth of trees. He says these reminders include nutrient materials that benefit the forest. Clearly, a disparity exists between the article and the evidence exhibited by the professor.
Second, the article pushes forth the idea that dead trees are the food resources for insects that are harmful to the forest. With salvage logging contribute to the health of forest with decrease the insects. However, the classroom discussion disagrees with this opinion. According to the professor, in one of the forests in Canada, in spite of the existence of many insects, there isn’t any report related to the harmful effects of insects. Furthermore, these dead trees can useful for birds that are part of the ecosystem too. Consequently, we can argue that indeed the claim made in reading unsubstantiated.
Finally, the reading posits that logging with providing much woods for industrials assist to the improvement of economic condition. Also for logging, they need workers that create more job for the community. The professor refutes this point by explaining that these job’s opportunities are contemporary and will not effective in reducing of a rate of unemployment. In fact, the advantages of logging would be small and unimportant.
