TPO-20 - Integrated Writing Task
The reading states that after forest fires in Yellowstone, the "let it burn" policy was criticized by three points. However, the professor claims that the policy is fundamentally good and refutes each points given in the passage.
First, the article says that because of the fire, trees and other vegetation were extremely damaged. On the other hand, the professor refutes this point by stating that the fire gives some plants opportunities to grow in the park. She gives an example of small plants that appeared after the forest fire.
Second, the reading claims that animals and their food chains are also affected like plants. Nonetheless, the professor says that the opportunity for some animals to live in new places is made by the fire. The professor also explains that the food chains in Yellowstone got stronger thanks to the fire.
Third, the passage states that the fire results in negative influences on the number of tourists to visit the park. However, the professor opposes this point by claiming that the combination between the fire and the decline in the value of the park is not proper. According the professor, many visitors come to the park even after the forest fires in 1988.
