TPO-29 - Integrated Writing Task Large numbers of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in deposits on Alaska's North Slope, a region that today experiences an extremely cold, arctic climate. One hundred million years ago, when those dinosaurs were alive,
The reading and the writing are both about which way the dinosaurs able to stay in North slope areas. The reading provides several hypotheses to support that dinosaurs survived that winter seasons by migrating other warmer place. However, the professor refutes all of the reasons claimed in the reading and states that those explanations are not convincing.
Firstly, the reading claims that edmontosaurus lived on eating plants and since cold season no plant grew that areas, they must migrate to other places. This point is rebutted by the lecturer. He says that North Slope was warmer than now and lots of plants grew in the summertime when the Sun shined whole day. As sufficient nutrient had remained from dead trees during winter, edmontosaurus did not have to move another place.
Secondly, the author avers that edmontosaurus lived in the herd to protect themselves from winter. on the other hand, the professor suggests that living on herd did not indicate that they had to migrate from one place to others. He posits that there may be other reasons behind to live in a herb like to protect themselves from predators, and to secure their home. He gives an example of Arks, which live in East America and have the similar herd, to support his point.
Thirdly, Edmontosaurus had the ability to travel a long distance; as a result, they moved away from their living areas to others to save their lives is the saying of the writer. The lecturer, conversely, refutes this reasons. He maintains that even though adults were capable of migrating long distances, the young who were jovial might not be able to move such distance. He also wants to know from the author how that jovial animal could survive if all the adults move away.
