The reading explains a number of reasons for quackers phenomenon, but the professor rejects these reasons.
Firstly, the text claims that the strange noise had been created by male and female ocra whales, however, the professor argues that this whales are detected by the submarines sonar. Moreover, this whales are living near the surface, while the submarines usually are moving in the deeper parts of ocean.
Secondly, the text argues that the second theory is related to giant squids. while, the professor opines that squids were detected in 1960 and after that for two decades were reported.
Eventually, the last theory which is mentioned by reading is related to foreign submarines, conversely, the professor elucidates that old submarines could not change their direction suddenly, while quackers sounds change direction quickly. In addition, submarines in the past had engine noise which could be detectable by another submarine. While these days, they have used new technology not in the past.
