People's behavior is largely determined by forces, not of their own making.
Every human considers oneself to be the protagonist of one’s life. This consideration leads oneself to specious belief that oneself is the chief force behind one’s all actions. But on a closer look, the belief seems completely inaccurate. So, I fully agree with the above mentioned vastly generalized statement that people’s behavior is largely a result of the latent forces that contribute to building a man.
Firstly, I would like to examine this statement to narrowing down to children. Dr Haim Ginnot once said: “Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.” The minds of children are so easily influenced by the surrounding world and the actions taking place, that they evince a readiness to believe everything that is subjected towards them. Another figurative example from a Hindu epic Mahabharata supports the statement indirectly. The brave warrior Arjuna narrated his pregnant wife, the route to overcoming the 7 battle chakras one had to fight in order to be invincible. It is further illustrated in the epic that Arjuna’s son was fully conscious of the conversation and did exactly as narrated in his attempt. This again asserts the claim.
Renowned actor of Indian parallel cinema, Naseeruddin Shah compares theatre to life in his autobiography. Just like theatrical artworks inculcate from external influences, a man is nothing but what he has been the audience to. All our actions are a consequence of some pre-experienced cause. This nullifies the notion of ‘a self-made man’. Shah states his theory so firmly that reader often is confused into a self-existential crisis.
Furthermore, the great mathematician and philosopher Bertrand Russell points out: “Man is a credulous animal, and must believe something; in the absence of good grounds for belief, he will be satisfied with bad ones.” This claim of the philosopher also hints to the importance of external influences in a man’s life. Those influences can be either genetic or non-genetic. An epitome of genetic influence is the father-son scientist duo – The Thompsons. The son of the Nobel Prize-winning physicist won the Nobel Prize in Physics too, for disproving his father’s theory. This also marks the great genetic influence that a man is pertained to.
Finally, conclusive evidence in the favor of the mentioned claim is provided by the pioneering psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. According to his book ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’, the human mind is under a constant influence of all the happenings that one comes across during the day-time, all of which is clearly reflected in a man’s dreams. If the human subconscious is so very influenced by the external forces, the conscious actions can never be exceptions to the claim.
Thus, it seems conclusive to me, as all hefty and sensible evidence incline towards one singular assertion, that people’s behavior is very strongly a consequence of external forces.
