The bar chart compares the popularity of nine different types of sports to two genders boys and girls in New Zealand in the year 2002.
Overall, there were significant differences in the choices of both genders for most kinds of sports. The percentages of boys and girls involved in basketball and tennis were similar.
About 25% of girls spent time on playing netball, compared to only about 1% of boys. The most popular sport for boys was soccer, when about 25% enjoyed playing it. In contrast, the proportion of girls who played soccer was about 5%. In swimming more girls were involved in this sport than boys, at over 20% while the figure for boys stood at under 15%. The proportion of boys playing other sports was under 20% while the figure for girls was lower, at about 10%.
Cricket, athletis, marital art, basketball and tennis were less common than the others for both genders. Over 10% of boys playing cricket, compared to about 1% of girls doing it. The percentage of boys who took part in Marital art was about 10% while the figure for girls was three times lower, at about 3%. The percentage of boys and girls playing athletics was about 5% anf 4% respectively. Under 10% of boys liked playing basketball and tennis, while the figure for girls was about 7%.
