Both the reading and lecturer are about bird populations that their habitats and numbers may have declined during next years in The United State. The reading provides three reasons for this reduction and then supports them. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and finds all arguments dubious.
First of all, the author of reading declares that bird habitats will be affected negatively by human populations who start growing more and more because human beings prefer to destroy wetlands, grasslands and other wilderness areas for constructing more houses. This point is challenged by the professor. She points out that some birds may suffer from this circumstance; however, other bird species like pigeon will take advantage of larger and bigger habitats, even some birds such as hawk will have opportunity to pray a large number of pigeons.
Secondly, the article contends that when the human populations grow, one should notice that spontaneously numerous agricultural products will be needed for feeding people, again farmers will destroy wild areas for gaining more farmlands and this matter will have harmful impacts on birds populations; in contrast, the professor believes that nowadays farmers attempt to use the new version of crops which are productive and provide more foods and even more these new crops require less and less lands.
Finally, the reading passage states that applying pesticides particularly chemical pesticides can have irrecoverable effects on birds because the mentioned pesticides can pollute water and fruits which are the main resource of food for these poor birds; consequently, they will not be able to survive or reproduce. This argument is rebutted by the lecturer again and she poses that today's the technology have developed new and much less harmful and toxic pesticides and also scholars could create some new plants which genetically are resistance in front of pesticides; therefore, eating them will not harm birds populations.
