Some employers reward members of staff for their exceptional contribution to the company by giving them extra money. This practice can act as an incentive for some but may also have a negative impact on others.
To what extent is this style of management effective?
Are there better ways of encouraging employees to work hard?
The reward system is a common method used by companies to encourage the employees to work hard. As desirable as it sounds, it actually gives a negative effect on other employees.
Although incentives attract employees to do well in their jobs, its effectiveness is not long-lasting. There is no denying that certain individuals excel in their work and such act deserves a prize and these same people will obviously earn another reward in the future. But the longer the results stay as is, the more other employees will get discouraged and others might think it is biased which will result in negative acts like tardiness, laziness, etc.
