The chart illustrates primary causes that lead to a decrease in productivity of soil. The table compares three different areas of the world in terms of three reasons of one degradation over the 1990s.
Overall, It is clear that over-grazing made up a largest proportion of causes of soil degradation. During the 1990s, Europe witnessed a highest figure in total land degraded.
In of all reasons, over-grazing accounted for 35%, which was fivefold other. The lower number was 30% for deforestation, compared with 28% for over-cultivation.
During the 1990s, total land degraded in Europe was highest, with 25%, compared to 13% and 5% in Oceania and North America, respectively. In Europe, deforestation was principal cause that resulted less productive agricultural land, with 9.8%, compared with only 0.2% in North America and 1.7% in Oceania. In contrast, over-grazing accounted for 11,3% in land degradation in Oceania, compared with 1.5% in North America. Over-cultivation has no effect on soil in Oceania, while it was reason of 3% and 7.7% of land degradation in North America and Europe, respectively.
