The table below shows the results of a survey of the average number of cars per hour using three suburban roads during working hours in a ten-year pollution monitoring programme. Traffic calming was introduced in Harper Lane at the beginning of 1999.

It can be seen that the average number of cars increased with the increase in the year but when the traffic calming was introduced in Harper Lane the number of cars decreased and were 204 cars only. In addition to this, there had 173 cars in the year 2000 in Harper Lane. Furthermore, in 2001 and 2002 the average number of cars were 178 and 193 respectively.
Moving further, in the Great York Way the average number of cars had fluctuated from the year 1993 to 2000 while it remains constant in the year 2000 and 2002. Apart from this, the number of cars increased from the year 1993 to 1996 but it decreased suddenly in the year 1997 and 1998. Moreover, the number of cars in Long Lane was 1000, 1200, 1400 and 1400 respectively in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
Overall, it is evident that, the average number of cars in three suburban roads was minimum in the year 1993 but it increased in the year 2002.
