Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
Both the lecture and reading discuss regarding four-day employees. The points in the lecture dispute assertion made in the passage emphatically articulating that four-day workers are more beneficial than five-day workers.
According to the passage, four-day employees make fewer costly errors since they can rest more. Moreover, companies will pay less for four-day employees, therefore, they will obtain further benefits by reducing their expense. On the contrary, the lecturer refutes this idea by providing the fact that companies should hire new four-day employees in order to make up the workload whereby they should spend more money to train new employees, provide more office space and health insurance for them.
Furthermore, the reading posits that hiring four-day employees means that full-time employees should work fewer hours and their workload will be shift warded to others, hence, the rate of unemployment will be reduced. While the speaker strongly rebuts this idea by mentioning that if companies find that four-day employees cannot do the same job as five-day employees did, their expectation will raise whereby employees should work much more for less pay, therefore, the work atmosphere will become more unpleasant.
Finally, the lecturer clearly contradicts the claim, which four-day employees have more free time to spend with their family to improve the quality of their life, uttering that four-day employees will lose the stability of their work, get less promotion in their work or maybe they will even get fired in economic recession. Consequently, their life become more stressful and unpleasant.
Summing it up, although the reading states that four-day employees reduce errors during work, create more opportunities for others and improve the quality of employees’ life but the lecturer presents logical reason against this idea.
