The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.
The bar chart illustrates the time spent by UK residents on different types of telephone calls between 1995 and 2002.
It is clear that the number of minutes of 3 types of phones made rose each year over the given period. Furthermore, local fixed-line calls were the most popular, at least twice as high as those for any telephone in almost every year.
In 1995, Local - fixed line calls were the highest, accounting for over 70 billion minutes, followed by national and internet - fixed line and mobiles, each has nearly 40 and 5 billion minutes. The figures for UK phone calls rose gradually over the next 5 years. To be more precise, time spent on local-fixed line and national and international-fixed line increased by nearly 15 billion minutes, whereas for mobiles climbed merely 5 billion.
During the period from 1999 to 2002, a sudden drop for local-fixed line calls, while mobiles and national and international-fixed line conversed, they significantly increased. By 2002, it is thought that national and internal-fixed line and mobile reached peaked of 60 and 45 respectively. By contrast, time spent on local fixed-line hit to its lowest point, at around 70 billion.
