The table details fundamental numbers about the underground railway systems in six big metropolises of the world.
Overall, all subways in six financial centers were built before 2000, except for los Angeles . It is obvious that railway systems in European cities such as london and paris are much longer than the rest of the list . Additionally, although Tokyo have a shorter route of railway, the annual number of visitors is considerably higher than other cities.
As can be seen in the table, london which was the first modern city developed its underground railways since 1863 . While other central cities such as paris, Tokyo, washington dc, Kyoto built their metro systems later throughout the 1900s, the latest underground railways were in los Angeles in 2001. there is a fact that the more kilometers railway routes are, the longer they were built. The longest subway route is 394 kilometers in london, followed by paris (199 kilometers), Tokyo (155 kilometers), washington dc (126 kilometers) and Kyoto has the shortest subway system with only 11 kilometers.
In terms of travel, there are 1,927 million travelers visit Tokyo every year, which is considered the largest figure compared to other inner cities. The second metropolis is paris, with 1191 million passengers and the third city, london , welcomes 775 million annual visitors. In the meantime, washington dc, Kyoto, and los Angeles have less than 150 million travelers each city every year.
