The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.
The line graph shows the figures for passengers using three different means of transport per day in the UK over a period of 60 years.
Overall, it is clear that the number of people who used cars and trains considerably increase while bus users showed a downward trend throughout the period as a whole.
If we look at the graph, we can see that the figures for car and train travelers had no significant changes at first before starting to grow sharply from 1980 to 2000, then remained unchanged at 7 million and 3 million users over a 10- year period from 2000 to 2010, respectively. After that, it saw a considerable increase to a forecast 9 million car users, followed by train with 5 million in 2030.
By 1980, the number of commuters travelled by bus maintained the same level at 4 million, after which there was a gradual fall to 3.3 million in 2018 and it still expected to decrease, with only nearly 3 million daily users.
