Overall, the data show an increase in women's attendances while the numbers of men attending further education levels fluctuated over the frame period.
In detail, the graphic shows that within the first period, 1970-1971, the number of male students, accounting 1000 thousand people, exceeded the rate of women by about 2500 people; nonetheless, the gap gradually decreased in 1980-1981 and finally the trend reversed in 1990-1991 when female students overtook the opposite class by 1000 thousand enrolments.
Furthermore, the data reporting the amounts of part- and full-time students mirrored each other: in 1970-71, only 100 and 50 thousand male and female students respectively chose a part-time subscription against the 1000 and 750 thousand of full-time enrolled. Even though the trend steadily increased up to 280 for both categories, the number of full-time students accounted for more than 4 times part-time women and 3 times part-time men.
In conclusion, while British universities and post-education courses saw an increase in the number of female students, both male and female groups preferred a full-time solution over the mentioned period.
