The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
The line graph illustrates the number of old people
who are 65 years old and over in japan , Sweden and the Usa from 1940 to 2040
In 1940, the proportion of the old in three countries was almost equal. In japan , there was the lowest percentage at 5 percent
as opposed to the Usa which accounted for about 9 percent. Sweden had 7 percent of elderly.
By 1980 , in the Usa and Sweden , both of them had a moderate increase in ageing population
which were about 15 percent and 14.5 percent respectively.
On the other hand , in japan , there was a slight decrease which dipped japan to only 2.5 percent before it slightly increased to almost
7.5 percent at the present time.
In the future , Sweden will face a fluctuation in percentage. But , it is predicted between 2020 and 2040
that all three countries will have a considerable rise in the number of old people which will make the proportion of the old in
the three countries mostly similar.
Overall , in the past , there was the fewer elderly than the present. Nevertheless , all three countries will change into complete ageging societies
