The table gives information about the underground railway systems in 6 countries.
The table compares the tube systems in 6 different nations in terms of ages, length, and traveler number each year. Overall, the three oldest systems are longer and serve more passengers than the newest ones.
London, Paris and Tokyo's underground railroad transportations are the oldest and the largest in the aspect of route length and capacity. Built in 1863, the system in London is the longest, with 394 km of routes, approximately doubling that of Paris's one, which was opened in 1900. However, Paris's tube carries 1191 million passengers per years, roughly more 300 million people than London's one. The number of commuters is the highest in Tokyo whose system has operated since 1927.
Regarding others, despite having nearly the same length as the underground railway in Tokyo, the one in Washington DC, which was constructed nearly half of century later, had a much lower passenger capacity, at 144 million people per year. As the second-newest system starting from 1981, Kyoto's one serves the least number of traveler, resulting from its smallest size, at 11 km in length. Built 2 decades before Kyoto's railway, that of Los Angeles is 17 km longer and transports more 5 million people.
